A History of Care

In the spring of 1992, just after the National Institutes of Health endorsed the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure, we began as Bariatric Treatment Center with a single facility in Addison, Michigan. Here we designed and continuously improved our protocol for the gastric bypass surgery, developing an entire program that goes beyond surgery to deliver long-term success. Now called Barix Clinics, our centers offer both gastric bypass and lap band surgery in Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. We were the first and still are, the only group of hospitals exclusively treating bariatric patients.

We understood early on that the procedure itself was only a tool - it needed to be surrounded by a complete multidisciplinary team of care before, during, and after weight loss surgery. The Barix team has successfully helped over 30,000 patients over the past 15 years with this long term commitment to bariatric surgery.
